Tongues of fire

3 MIN READ · FAITH AND FORTY TWO
“They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
ACTS 2:3–4 · BSB · READ THE CHAPTER →Greek: pyr (G4442) and pneuma (G4151)

Fifty days after the resurrection, about 120 believers were praying in one room. Then the sound of a rushing wind filled the house and fire rested on each one of them.

Wind and fire are not random. Pneuma means both spirit and wind. And from the burning bush to Sinai, God's presence came as fire. At Pentecost, the fire that once rested on a mountain rested on people.

Notice where it landed: on each of them. The fire changed what came out of their mouths. Peter, who had denied Jesus to a servant girl, preached to thousands. Three thousand were saved that day.

You don't need a new personality to be bold. You need the Holy Spirit. Ask for Him to fill you, and then open your mouth.

Questions for reflection
  1. Have you asked to be filled with the Holy Spirit, specifically and personally?
  2. What keeps your mouth closed about Jesus?
  3. Who is one person God has put in your path this week?
Put it into practice

Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you today. Then share one sentence about Jesus with someone who doesn't know Him.

The cross tells you what your sin cost. The empty tomb tells you it's paid in full.
