““Look!” he exclaimed. “I see four men, unbound and unharmed, walking around in the fire—and the fourth looks like a son of the gods!””DANIEL 3:25 · BSB · READ THE CHAPTER →Aramaic: “like a son of the gods”
Nebuchadnezzar threw three men into a furnace so hot it killed the soldiers who carried them. Then he looked in and jumped to his feet. He saw four.
God didn't keep His servants out of the fire. He met them in it. The deliverance didn't come before the furnace. It came inside it.
Many of us pray for God to stop the fire. Sometimes He does. More often, He steps in and walks with us through it, and the people watching end up seeing Him.
If you're in the furnace now, look around. You are not alone in there. The fire you dreaded may be the very place you meet Jesus most clearly.
Questions for reflection
- Where have you been praying for escape when God wants to meet you in the fire?
- Who is watching how you walk through your hardest season?
- Can you name a time Jesus was nearest in your pain?
Put it into practice
Tell one person this week how God met you in a hard season. Let them see the fourth Man.
Show up at the altar on the days you feel nothing. That's where the fire falls.
