Fire in my bones

3 MIN READ · FAITH AND FORTY TWO
“If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become weary of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.”
JEREMIAH 20:9 · BSB · READ THE CHAPTER →Hebrew: esh (H784), fire

Jeremiah had been mocked, beaten and put in stocks for preaching. So he decided he was done. He would not mention God or speak in His name anymore.

It didn't work. The Word he'd been carrying kept burning inside him until holding it in was more painful than speaking it out.

That is what happens when Scripture gets deep enough into you. It stops being information and becomes fire. You can't stay silent, because something alive is inside.

If your faith feels cold, the answer isn't to try harder to feel. Put more of the Word in. Fire needs fuel. Store it in your heart and it will come out of your bones.

Questions for reflection
  1. How much Scripture have you stored in your heart this month?
  2. When did God's Word last feel like fire to you?
  3. What truth are you holding in that God wants you to speak?
Put it into practice

Memorize one verse from the Armory this week. Say it out loud every morning until it's yours.

Jesus didn't die to make you comfortable. He died to make you His.
